Recent buy – Royal Dutch Shell

More than 10 years ago I bought my first shares of RDS. After one decade I have bought 180 shares and dripped an additional 72 shares! It is one of my best holdings in my Vrijheid Fonds.

Recently the oil prices have gone down significantly. And gives really good opportunities to buy oil related stocks. RDS (on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange) has tanked and it was hard to resist 😉

Today (December, 28th) I bought 68 shares of RDS at €21.40 per share (incl. fees).

With this buy, I do not add some passive income to my Vrijheid Fonds for this year, duh… The projected dividend income for 2016 for this purchase of RDS is € 468.

Again a small step in my journey. And one-step closer to my goal.

Has anyone else invested in this company recently? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Pollie

I do not have a glass ball to see the future 😁, but in my opinion the dividend will remain the same the next couple of years. Due to the take-over of BG, RDS is more focussing on gas. This will be positive on the revenues of RDS.

Nice buy, your timing was better than ours. We bought back in October and November this year, averaging about €22,30 including fees (280 shares, in 3 transactions). Dripped 5 shares already this year (+ some cash).

However, considering the ongoing carnage in the oil and gas industry, we are not hopeful that the dividend will grow in the next few years. The yield is already extremely good, but is likely not sustainable in the long run. There may even be a risk of a cut in a couple of years’ time (subject to what the oil price will do), which would be a first in a very long time. Only time will tell!

Still believe it is a good long term buy though, very nicely diversified energy company.

RDS is part of my active managed portfolio. I started buying at 26… I euro cost averaged down in the mean time. I like this stock for its dividend in combination with options. Via this stock I discovered all the finer details of covered calls. I have no plans to sell any time soon.
I do not yet drip these stocks.
