Last week BBL announced a 150% increase in its semi-annual dividend. The dividend is raised from $0.32 to $0.80. The dividend pay date is March 28, 2017 to shareholders of record on March 10, 2017 (ex dividend March 8, 2017).
The Board of BHP Billiton has determined to pay an interim dividend of 40 US cents per share, which is covered by free cash flow. This comprises the minimum payout of 30 US cents per share and an additional amount of 10 US cents per share. Because BBL-ADR consists of two shares of BHP, the dividend for BBL will be 80 cents.
Vrijheid Fonds
The new dividend amount represents an annualized dividend amount of $1.60 per share, up from $0.64. The dividend yield on current price is 1.84 %.
My Vrijheid Fonds consist of 30 shares of BBL, so my annual dividends will increase by €23.04 (after taxes).
My projected annual total amount from my shares of BBL will be €38 after taxes.
BHP Billiton slashed its dividend last year. Back then I decided to not sell my shares, because it is just a small part of my portfolio. So this raise is very welcome!
Cheers,
Pollie
Pollies –
I was very pleased with this and slightly surprised. I hope they maintain the right amount of cash flow to slow down their slashing of any dividend.

I was also very surprised! The signs are looking good. There is a big demand for resources again.
